Who We Are

Who are the people who are members of Ananda Center of Tucson? We’re just like you. We come from all walks of life, various ethnic and cultural backgrounds, some of us work while others are retired. We come from various religious traditions — several of whom still actively practice theirs. Yet we share a common desire to find the deeper meaning of life and actively strive to know God as a real and loving presence in our daily lives.

We follow the non-sectarian teachings of Paramhansa Yogananda, a great spiritual master who brought meditation and Kriya Yoga to the West. We find that Yogananda’s teachings, as shared by his direct disciple, Swami Kriyananda, provide practical tools for — and tremendous insights into — the search for happiness and joy.

Whether you are simply looking for some practical tools to reduce stress, want to learn more about developing a healthier lifestyle, or are seeking answers to life’s questions, please stop by the Center or Contact Us — we would love to meet you!

History

Ananda Tucson was started in 1996 by two meditators who were inspired by visiting The Expanding Light Yoga and Meditation Retreat and wanted a local meditation group. It has had several homes in Tucson and Green Valley, meeting in homes, libraries, and businesses. In 2009 we purchased a house in central Tucson, giving us the space and vibration for classes, services, and satsang. We have occasionally expanded to membership in the Phoenix and Sedona areas.
